HR is one of the most critical aspects of developing and retaining talent, from employee wellness programs and personality tests to insights into employees' personal preferences and company retreats.

Running a start-up is not a job that can be done in a jiffy. With proper planning and strategies on the path, it's a whole journey to take a business from zero to one. Start-ups are the most dynamic, creative and inspiring businesses. That is how it has been for established entrepreneurs who have scaled their businesses to great heights today. It's always challenging to run them, especially in the early stages of their lives, with challenges aloof at every step.

Of all the aspects of businesses, HR strategies are essential and of utmost importance to ensure a profitable future and turn a start-up into a real business. HR is one of the most critical aspects of developing and retaining talent, from employee wellness programs and personality tests to insights into employees' personal preferences and company retreats. Apart from providing competitive salaries, it is also necessary to provide a lucrative work environment with benefits like flexible hours, snacks and beverages in the office, ergonomic chairs, etc.

Here are a few strategies that every start-up must follow that can help them gain the right momentum to reach the right height-

Defining & aligning the organization's goals & mission statement-

Every organization must know what they are doing and how they will do it. The 5Ws and 1H come in handy and are used in every literal segment, including establishing a firm base for your start-up. While you are at it, your motive to define your success and how you intend to measure and reward people, with milestones—each one counts and having them is very important. These milestones help keep track of its history and reflect on your company's long-winding journey that has led to this success.

Knowing what your organization stands for or intends to do – could be a great pull for many people. The niche it defines and the needs or segment it caters to—Innovaccer could be a great example of people willing to impact healthcare, similarly to how Google and Microsoft had been to the technology sector.

The way to build a business that lasts is by understanding and establishing early on the company’s core strategy, mission statement and goals in the workplace and aligning the same with the people who make your organization.

Hire right & Hire Fast

Knowing what you are hiring for is the first important milestone before you even begin to hire. Who you hire makes a big difference in making your organization stand out and start towards reaching great heights.

Define the role of the job clearly, the good-to-have and the must-haves and call out on what the position is going to entail instead of overselling an opportunity – that could help you bring in the right set of people who are already mission or cause-driven. While you focus on the "Hire right" part, you also need to ensure the hiring sp(r)eed. Hiring fast is the key—knowing where to hire from and their timelines are your cue, or one will forever be stuck in the execution.

Building an inclusive culture (cross-team collaboration)

Talent wins you matches, and teams win you championships—Inclusion and Collaboration have been known to improve organizations in many ways. Inclusion is all about inviting different groups of people to the table and creating an environment where all perspectives and experiences are welcomed, valued and paid heed to. When all team members feel a sense of belonging, achieving goals becomes more fluid and productive and brings about a swift collaboration with much improved results.

Keep up with the communication; consistent & clear

Understanding and being understood are two of the most important aspects of any business that is present out there. If you want to ensure the success of your business, you need to make sure that a good flow of communication is established. Effective workplace communication is about connecting with everyone in the organization and creating an environment where everyone feels heard and included.

Communication will allow you and your team and hence the organization to achieve milestones and accomplish goals. Being consistent & clear—even if needed to be overcommunicated, establish a strong bond that withholds the very essence of an organization.

Conclusion

A sound HR strategy is a must to achieve successful growth. The right strategy will help the organization expand. There are numerous strategies that can be implemented effectively, however,  you get to decide and choose the right ones to grow your business. Mission, Vision, Culture, the Aim, the people, and the benefits, among others, will help create a sound business that could scale up to greater heights.
