Many professionals struggle to find time for learning amid their regular job responsibilities. Loud learning can help by normalizing the dedication of work hours to skill development, encouraging a healthier work-life balance, and reducing the stress associated with learning outside of work hours.

You know that feeling of satisfaction when you learn something new and that urge to share that knowledge, almost urgently and loudly with others? Well, the new trend of "loud learning" is a bit like that: talk openly about your professional learning goals and progress.

If you openly express your intention to learn, and you don't have to "hide" that you are doing it during the working day, (as if it is a bad thing!) you can receive guidance, career opportunities and share ideas from your colleagues. It is about transparency, sharing your passion for learning, and interacting with others to get feedback and new ideas during the learning process.

Many professionals are interested in continuing their training on an ongoing basis. However, the daily hustle and bustle and the tasks that pile up make it impossible to open up this space in the working day. Many feel guilty about taking time off work for training. Load learning" proposes just the opposite: "shout from the rooftops" that you are spending time learning and share this learning with your colleagues, so that they can also benefit from it.

Why is it so necessary to find time for learning?

Continuous learning and upskilling are more critical than ever. Permanent upskilling has become essential for professionals seeking to maintain relevance and competitiveness. The constant advancement of technology, shifting market demands, and the dynamic nature of industries necessitate a continuous learning mindset.

From Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to blockchain and data analytics, new technologies are reshaping job roles and creating new ones. Professionals need to continually update their skills to leverage these technologies effectively and stay ahead of the curve. Employers value employees who demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning. Upskilling helps professionals remain competitive in the job market, making them more attractive to current and potential employers. It shows a proactive attitude and a willingness to grow, which are highly sought-after traits.

Permanent upskilling also opens doors to new career opportunities and advancements. As professionals acquire new skills, they become eligible for promotions, higher salaries, and more challenging and fulfilling roles. Continuous learning can also lead to career shifts, allowing individuals to explore new fields and industries. Moreover, it encourages professionals to think creatively and innovate, driving both personal and organizational growth.

Despite all these compelling reasons not to neglect continuous training in the professional area of our choice, in practice, it is not so easy to find the space and time for it. LinkedIn's research indicates that 49% of professionals believe that loud learning can support their career growth. Specifically, in Australia, 90% of professionals feel hindered in their pursuit of new skills due to exhaustion, burnout, and the demands of family responsibilities.

Loud learning is about making your educational pursuits visible and engaging. By openly sharing your learning goals and progress, you create a supportive environment that fosters personal and professional growth.

Many professionals struggle to find time for learning amid their regular job responsibilities. Loud learning can help by normalizing the dedication of work hours to skill development, encouraging a healthier work-life balance, and reducing the stress associated with learning outside of work hours.

By adopting this approach, you can not only enhance your own skills but also contribute to a culture of continuous learning within your organization.

The benefits of loud learning extend beyond personal growth. By openly discussing your learning objectives, professionals contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within your organization. This can open doors to new career opportunities and advancements, as well as foster a collaborative and innovative workplace environment.

Here's how loud learning can transform your upskilling efforts:

  • Visibility and Accountability:

    • Publicly sharing your learning plans can significantly increase your commitment. According to the research, 54% of Australian professionals find that making their learning goals known helps them allocate time effectively for skill improvement. When colleagues are aware of your goals, they can offer support and encouragement, reinforcing your dedication.

  • Time Blocking:

    • One effective strategy is to set aside specific time blocks on your calendar for learning. Even a 15-minute daily commitment can yield substantial progress over time. This not only helps you stay on track but also demonstrates your commitment to continuous learning to your peers.

  • Sharing Your Journey:

    • Posting updates about your learning progress at work and on platforms like LinkedIn can inspire others and spark meaningful discussions. Sharing your experiences can help build a supportive learning community, encouraging others to embark on their upskilling journeys.

  • Finding a Learning Buddy:

    • Pairing up with a “learning BFF” can make the learning process less daunting. Learning buddies can hold each other accountable, share insights, and introduce each other to new tools and resources, making the journey more enjoyable and effective.

  • Leveraging AI:

    • Advances in AI, like LinkedIn's new expert advice feature, offer personalized, practical guidance from industry leaders. This can provide you with instant access to specialized knowledge, enhancing your learning experience.

  •  Build a Learning Community: Engage in LinkedIn Groups and contribute to collaborative articles to exchange insights and perspectives with like-minded professionals.
