If you can work with platform architecture, you have a leg up in the salary game.

The ability to design and implement network solutions running on Microsoft Azure or on Amazon Web Services (AWS) is worth a lot of money these days. More than A$150,000, in fact.

This latest salary data was compiled by IT training provider Dynamic Web Training, where the team pulled salary data on specific technical skills and capabilities from Indeed, covering the first half of 2025.

It's fairly clear why skills around these two platforms are in such high demand - as of 2024, Australia was one of the top five countries worldwide using Azure, while AWS has been investing heavily in its Sydney and Melbourne regions since 2023, with a projected total of over A$13 billion poured into its Australian infrastructure by 2027.

Next after the big two, platform engineers can expect to earn over A$130,000 per year. Linux engineers appear to be in particular demand, with an entire category devoted to expertise in that specific platform.

Engineers in various other specialisations occupy the rest of the top eight most highly paid roles, earning over A$120,000 on average. After them come developers: backend, SQL, full stack, Python, and even Java.

The 15 Highest Paying Tech Job Roles in Australia (2025)

Table from Dynamic Web Training

It's not just pay, either. IT specialists with these skill sets can take their pick of roles around the country. Market demand for these skills is considered critical, with software engineers in general, devops engineers in particular, and computer and network systems engineers all on the Core Skills Occupation List.

Ali Noorani, a data analyst at Dynamic Web Training, singled out infrastructure, backend systems, and data engineering as the fields where skilled professionals can command the highest premium.

Even entry-level roles can command hefty pay packets, based on the findings. QA engineers and system or network administrators can be paid over A$90,000 on average, close enough to the six-figure mark to quickly pass into a higher salary bracket.
