Australia's labour market gears up for a strong recovery, as COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions are lifted. Further, with vaccination drives rolled out in full swing, people are now resuming life as usual, which brings good news for businesses. 

As a result, payroll jobs have already started rebounding and the Australian recruitment market is witnessing a surge in job advertising. 

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reveals payroll jobs rose by 1.3 percent in the fortnight to October 16, after a fall of 0.5 percent in the previous two weeks.

"Payroll jobs increased through the first half of October, as lockdowns and other restrictions eased," said ABS head of labour statistics Bjorn Jarvis. 

In NSW, payrolls rose 3.5 percent, while they were up 2.4 percent in the ACT and 0.8 percent higher in Victoria.

Ahead of the holiday season, many retailers have also increased hiring, boosting the job market. As restrictions ease in Australia's key markets and businesses gear up for the holiday season, this month's job ad volumes are expected to rise further.
