Digital defenders wanted! Is your company equipped with these much-needed talent?

Latent cybersecurity threats have elevated the demand for professionals capable of identifying and halting them, placing cybersecurity engineers at the forefront of Australia's most sought-after jobs.

A recent survey conducted among Australian employers has revealed the top four IT positions that companies are particularly eager to fill. Leading the list is the crucial role of cybersecurity engineers, underscoring the ongoing need for experts proficient in safeguarding digital assets and combatting cyber threats.

The survey, which received over 14,000 responses from Australia and New Zealand, affirms what industry experts have emphasised for years: cyber attacks pose a significant risk to organisations of all sizes, and cybersecurity engineers play a pivotal role in defense.

Given the ever-evolving nature of cyber threats, Australian employers recognise the urgent need to bolster their digital security measures. Cybersecurity engineers are entrusted with implementing robust strategies, fortifying networks, identifying vulnerabilities, and swiftly responding to potential breaches.

Furthermore, the research reveals that the majority (94%) of tech sector employers in Australia intend to offer pay raises this year as part of their efforts to attract cybersecurity engineers.

To entice these professionals, Australian employers are presenting appealing compensation packages. Reports from the industry indicate that the average annual salary for cybersecurity engineers in Australia ranges from AU$110,000 to AU$150,000, contingent on factors such as experience, qualifications, and the complexity of the role. However, it should be noted that senior-level positions and specialised skills can command significantly higher salaries.

Moreover, many employers supplement the base salary with enticing benefits and perks. These may encompass performance-based bonuses, flexible work arrangements, opportunities for professional development, and generous leave policies. Employers are well aware of the high demand for cybersecurity professionals and are willing to invest in creating an attractive work environment to both attract and retain top talent.

From financial institutions to government agencies, organisations across various sectors actively seek professionals capable of safeguarding their critical data and infrastructure.

The Australian Cyber Security Growth Network, also known as AustCyber, predicts that the demand for cybersecurity professionals will exceed supply by 17,600 workers by 2026. This urgent need has led to a hyper-competitive job market where organisations are willing to offer lucrative salaries to attract and retain highly skilled individuals.
