Tesla has reportedly started retracting job offers for prospective full-time employees, as informed by two sources familiar with the situation, amidst extensive workforce reductions at the electric vehicle manufacturer.
"Tesla has made changes to our hiring growth plans," emails sent from Tesla to the workers said, reported Business Insider.
"Unfortunately, this change impacts your future employment with the company. We regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to rescind your offer of employment with Tesla. This means that you will no longer be joining the company on the previously agreed start date. We understand the inconvenience this may cause; this was not an easy decision. We will circulate your credentials internally should there be an opportunity for you to join the company in the future,” read the mail.
Two additional employees shared online their experiences of having their full-time offers revoked, with one individual disclosing on social media that Tesla retracted their offer just two days prior to their scheduled start date, even after they had entered the US on a work visa.
These withdrawn offers are part of a wider trend of downsizing at the company. On April 15, CEO Elon Musk informed the staff that Tesla intended to reduce its workforce by more than 10% in anticipation of the forthcoming growth phase.
Furthermore, according to four individuals affected by the downsizing, Tesla issued another round of layoff notifications over the weekend.
Employees at the automotive company are now facing their fifth consecutive week of layoff notifications.
Earlier this month, numerous college students reported that Tesla had withdrawn their internship offers. In the last month, the company has removed over 3,400 job listings from its careers page.
