Google Cloud appointment Paul Migliorini as its new vice president for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), marking a significant leadership change as the company continues to expand its presence in the region. Based in Sydney, Migliorini takes over from Alister Dias, who stepped down from the role in April 2024 for personal and family reasons.
Migliorini brings over 25 years of experience in the technology sector, with a career spanning across Asia, Europe, and the US. He was most recently the group chief executive officer of cloud services company Versent, which was acquired by Telstra in 2023. His previous roles include managing director of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Australia, and leadership positions at BT, IWG, and Ernst & Young, giving him a broad perspective on the technology and cloud landscape.
In his new position, Migliorini will focus on shaping Google Cloud’s go-to-market strategy in Australia and New Zealand. He will work closely with customers and partners to maximize the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) through Google Cloud's open, secure, and integrated technology stack. As AI becomes increasingly central to business innovation and efficiency, Google Cloud’s leadership sees it as a critical tool for delivering real-world impact.
“AI isn’t just changing the technology sector, it’s changing the world,” Migliorini said upon his appointment. “I look forward to building on the momentum and helping customers and partners capture this moment with the power of Google Cloud’s technology leadership and differentiation.”
Google Cloud has been steadily ramping up its activities in the Australian market, positioning itself as a key innovation partner for several high-profile companies. Major clients such as ANZ Bank, Woolworths, Ramsay Health Care, and government bodies like the Department of Health & Aged Care have chosen Google Cloud to support their digital transformation initiatives. These partnerships highlight the growing reliance on cloud infrastructure and AI tools to enhance operational efficiency and drive innovation across various sectors.
Under Migliorini’s leadership, Google Cloud is expected to continue building on its regional investments. The company has made significant contributions to Australia's digital infrastructure, including its involvement in the Pacific Connect initiative, which focuses on expanding subsea cable investments to bolster connectivity. Additionally, Google Cloud is playing a role in Australia’s energy transition, partnering with renewable energy company OX2 to increase the adoption of sustainable energy sources within the country’s power grid.
Globally, Google Cloud has been advancing its AI capabilities, introducing over a thousand product innovations in the past year, including enhancements to its Gemini AI platform. These advancements are expected to benefit local enterprises as they integrate more AI-driven solutions into their operations, further cementing Google Cloud’s position as a leader in the cloud and AI space.
With its Q2 2024 revenue reaching $10 billion, Google Cloud is poised for continued growth under Migliorini’s leadership in the ANZ region. His extensive experience and strategic vision will be crucial in driving the adoption of AI and cloud technologies among businesses in Australia and New Zealand.
