Allianz Australia has announced key leadership changes, effective 1 April, as it strengthens its senior management team with internal talent.

Anna Stavropoulos, previously general manager of People Advisory, Talent, and Learning, has been appointed as the new chief people and culture officer. She succeeds Vicky Drakousis, who will step into the role of global chief people and culture officer for AZ Tech, based in Munich.

With over two decades of HR leadership experience in financial services, including five years at Allianz, Stavropoulos has earned a reputation for driving innovation in employee wellbeing, talent management, and learning and development. She is known for her commitment to diversity, equity, and fostering a culture of belonging.

Commenting on her new role, Stavropoulos said: “I have always been passionate about creating an environment where every team member feels valued, supported, and inspired to contribute their best. In this new role I am excited to continue to build a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and customer obsession that drives our collective success and strengthens our commitment to excellence.”

Stavropoulos also brings a unique blend of financial acumen and HR expertise, leveraging her background in finance and accounting. Her leadership approach emphasises collaboration with executive teams to align people strategies with business goals. Beyond her corporate responsibilities, she is actively involved in community causes supporting children and youth.

Commercial leadership transition

In another key leadership update, Julie Mitchell has been named chief general manager for Commercial, succeeding Phuong Ly, who will take on the role of commercial managing director at Allianz Commercial UK.

Mitchell’s appointment follows a 25-year career with Allianz, including six years as chief general manager of the Personal Injury Division. Her extensive experience in helping Australian businesses protect their most valuable assets has established her as a trusted leader in the industry.

Known for her collaborative leadership style and insight, Mitchell is poised to lead Allianz’s commercial operations.

Reflecting on her new role, Mitchell said: “Throughout my career, it has been a privilege to work closely with small and large Australian businesses, helping them protect their most valuable assets. I am excited to expand upon this in my new role leading the Allianz Australia Commercial team. I look forward to collaborating with insurance brokers and continuing to support Australian businesses.”

While the search for a permanent successor to Mitchell is under way, Mark Pittman, GM of Government Services, will serve as acting chief general manager for Personal Injury.
