Professional services firm RSM Australia has strengthened its leadership ranks in Western Australia with the appointment of five senior leaders across its Perth and regional offices.
The newly appointed leaders include two partners—Simon Harcombe and Tom Hüberli—along with three directors, Gavin O’Neill, Fiona Sherington, and Liam Telford. The move reflects RSM Australia’s commitment to expanding its expertise and presence in the region.
The firm highlighted that the appointments include a mix of internal promotions and a strategic lateral hire. Managing Partner of RSM Perth, Alasdair Whyte, expressed his enthusiasm for the new leadership additions, stating that these appointments mark an important milestone in the firm’s growth strategy.
“Notably, the advancement of Simon Harcombe and Tom Hüberli is a testament to their dedication and the immense value they provide to our team and our clients. Tom started his career as a graduate with RSM and is now an integral part of our business advisory team, managing our Rockingham office,” said Whyte.
Simon Harcombe, newly appointed as a partner, has an extensive background in research and development (R&D) tax incentives and has worked across various industries, including resources, technology, and biotechnology. His expertise is expected to further enhance RSM’s tax incentive capabilities.
Tom Hüberli, also appointed as a partner, specializes in business consultancy and taxation. Based in Rockingham, he has been instrumental in providing expertise in defence and manufacturing sectors, with a notable focus on Swiss pension tax outcomes.
The firm also secured Gavin O’Neill as director for corporate tax in its Perth office. O’Neill brings a wealth of international experience, having previously served as the regional tax director for the Asia-Pacific region at SGS in Switzerland. He also spent a decade at BDO, further cementing his expertise in corporate and international tax matters.
Supporting these leadership moves, Fiona Sherington and Liam Telford have also been appointed as directors. Sherington, who began her career as a graduate with RSM in Perth before relocating to Bunbury, specializes in superannuation and cloud accounting, particularly within the health sector. Telford, the firm’s national tax technical director, has a strong background in tax services, having previously worked at the ATO, BHP, and other professional services firms. He plays a key role in supporting clients across the country from RSM’s Perth office.
These latest appointments are part of a broader leadership expansion at RSM Australia, which has promoted a total of 18 new leaders nationally in 2025. The firm’s total partner count now stands at 149, reinforcing its position as a leading professional services provider in Australia.
Whyte emphasized the importance of these appointments in driving RSM’s continued growth and ability to serve evolving client needs. “We look forward to the value these leaders will add to our firm, as they will play a critical role in achieving and delivering value to our clients,” he said.
“These strategic promotions and hires also reinforce our ongoing commitment to meet the evolving needs of our clients and deliver innovative solutions.”
With this leadership expansion, RSM Australia is poised to further strengthen its service offerings and continue its strategic growth in Western Australia and beyond.
