Starting January 1, 2025, Chief Commercial Officer Max Eburne and Chief Financial Officer David Watkins will assume the roles of co-CEOs.

Steve O’Connor, the CEO of JCDecaux Australia and New Zealand, has decided to step down after 20 years with the company. O’Connor’s tenure has been marked by substantial growth and transformative changes within the organization, particularly highlighted by the successful integration of APN Outdoor.

O’Connor will remain in his position until the end of 2024, allowing for a smooth transition as the company prepares for new leadership. Starting January 1, 2025, Chief Commercial Officer Max Eburne and Chief Financial Officer David Watkins will assume the roles of co-CEOs.

Jean-François Decaux, co-CEO of the global advertising giant, commended O’Connor’s contributions, stating, “Steve’s leadership over the past 20 years has been integral to JCDecaux’s growth in Australia and New Zealand. His efforts, especially during the integration of APN Outdoor, have been pivotal for our success.”

Reflecting on his two decades at the helm, O’Connor expressed pride in the accomplishments of JCDecaux and gratitude for the support he received along the way. “It’s been an incredible journey building JCDecaux in Australia and New Zealand. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, and I thank everyone who has supported me and the company. Max and David are well-prepared to lead the business into the future,” he remarked.

Eburne and Watkins, as co-CEOs, bring complementary skills and extensive experience to their new roles. Eburne emphasized their commitment to innovation and results, stating, “David and I will take great pride in leading the immensely talented team at JCDecaux to evolve and thrive in the future.” Watkins echoed these sentiments, adding, “We have a strong foundation and are excited to continue investing and innovating in the Out-of-Home industry.”

O’Connor’s departure occurs at a pivotal time for the Out-of-Home advertising sector, which is experiencing growth due to advancements in digital technology and changing consumer behaviors. His leadership has significantly positioned JCDecaux as a frontrunner in the industry, setting the stage for Eburne and Watkins to continue this trajectory.

As the company transitions to new leadership, JCDecaux ANZ looks forward to building on the legacy established by O’Connor while navigating the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the evolving advertising landscape.
