Omnicom Media Group's Peter Horgan to step down as ANZ CEO after 21 years

As Horgan prepares for his next chapter, OMG continues its search for a successor who can uphold the company's legacy while steering it toward new opportunities in the dynamic media landscape.

After 21 years with Omnicom Media Group (OMG), Peter Horgan, CEO for Australia and New Zealand, has announced his decision to step down from his leadership role. Horgan, who has been with OMG since 2003, will remain in his position until mid-2025 to ensure a seamless transition, after which he will take on the role of Chair. This shift will allow him to support the new CEO and facilitate their onboarding process.

Horgan’s tenure with OMG spans two decades, including 15 years as a CEO, first at OMD Australia before transitioning to lead OMG Australia and New Zealand in 2016. Under his leadership, OMG became a powerhouse in the media agency industry across the region. His contributions extended beyond OMG, as he also served as Chair of the Media Federation of Australia for a decade, representing OMG and promoting industry growth and innovation.

During his time at OMG, Horgan earned a reputation for driving transparent business practices and forging long-term partnerships with blue-chip advertisers. His leadership was marked by successful client outcomes and a focus on talent retention, helping to position OMG as a leader in the competitive media landscape in Australia and New Zealand.

Reflecting on his time with OMG, Horgan expressed gratitude to his teams and to Omnicom Media Group Asia Pacific CEO, Tony Harradine, for their ongoing support. “It has been a privilege to lead the exceptional OMG teams across Australia and New Zealand, and I thank you all. Nothing is forever, and I’m grateful to Tony for supporting my next chapter. My focus now is to set up OMG for ongoing success,” said Horgan.

Tony Harradine acknowledged Horgan’s pivotal role in strengthening OMG’s competitive edge over the years and highlighted the significance of this transition in the company's leadership strategy. “Horgs has played a key role in elevating OMG’s competitive edge during his time with us, and this transition marks a natural evolution of his commitment to the continued success of our organisation. At OMG, we are dedicated to supporting our leaders in their long-term succession planning strategy," said Harradine.

He further emphasized that the process of identifying Horgan’s successor has been deliberate and thorough. Harradine noted that the new CEO would be aligned with OMG’s core values and business ambitions, ensuring continuity and progress for the agency. “Over the last few months, Horgs and I have been working closely to identify the best leadership succession for our Australian and New Zealand businesses. We have taken a deliberate approach to ensure the individual aligns with OMG’s values, business ambitions, and possesses the vision to advance our Agency as a Platform proposition,” he added.

As Horgan prepares for his next chapter, OMG continues its search for a successor who can uphold the company's legacy while steering it toward new opportunities in the dynamic media landscape. Horgan’s move to the role of Chair will ensure that the new CEO benefits from his experience, maintaining OMG’s momentum as a leading force in the industry.
