Nagaja Sanatkumar joins ANZ Bank New Zealand: A new era of leadership begins

Sanatkumar serves on several prominent boards, including Meridian Energy Limited, Southern Cross Healthcare Limited, Southern Cross Medical Care Society, and Tuatahi First Fibre Limited.

ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited (ANZ NZ) announced the appointment of Nagaja Sanatkumar to its Board, effective 19 August 2024. This significant move underscores ANZ NZ’s commitment to strengthening its leadership team with seasoned professionals who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.

Nagaja Sanatkumar brings over 25 years of international executive and leadership experience to her new role on the ANZ NZ Board. Her career is distinguished by a deep expertise in strategy, digital technology, eCommerce, and customer-led innovation, positioning her as a formidable addition to the Board.

Sanatkumar’s extensive experience spans several key and senior roles at leading global companies. She has made impactful contributions at Amazon, Expedia, and Icebreaker, where she honed her skills in navigating complex digital landscapes and driving customer-centric strategies. Her roles in these high-profile organizations reflect her ability to lead and innovate in rapidly evolving markets.

In addition to her executive roles, Sanatkumar holds several influential directorships. She is a board member of Meridian Energy Limited, Southern Cross Healthcare Limited, Southern Cross Medical Care Society, and Tuatahi First Fibre Limited. Furthermore, she is actively involved with IMAgEN8, a nature photography education charity, where she contributes to the organization’s mission through her board membership.

ANZ NZ’s Chair, Scott St John, expressed his enthusiasm for Sanatkumar’s appointment, noting her impressive background and the strategic value she brings to the Board. “We are thrilled to welcome Nagaja Sanatkumar to the ANZ NZ Board,” St John said. “Her extensive international experience and her deep expertise in areas crucial to our business, such as digital technology and customer-led innovation, will be invaluable as we continue to evolve and enhance our offerings.”

Sanatkumar will join a distinguished group of leaders currently serving on the ANZ NZ Board. The Board is chaired by Scott St John and includes Joan Withers, Alison Gerry, Mark Tume, and ANZ Group Holdings Limited (ANZGHL) CEO Shayne Elliott. Also part of the Board is ANZGHL Executive Technology Gerard Florian and ANZ NZ CEO Antonia Watson.

This diverse and experienced team collectively brings a broad range of skills and perspectives to the governance of ANZ NZ. The addition of Sanatkumar further strengthens the Board’s capacity to navigate the complexities of the financial industry and respond effectively to the evolving needs of customers and stakeholders.
