Linda Yaccarino, the newly appointed CEO of Twitter, is gearing up for battle with social media giant Meta. In response to a recent report about Instagram's plans to create a Twitter clone, Yaccarino expressed her readiness for the challenge, saying: "Game on!"
Yaccarino took to Twitter and shared a TechCrunch article detailing Meta's upcoming Twitter competitor that is supposedly built on the Instagram platform. ICYMI's Lia Haberman – who spoke with a person with insider knowledge – revealed that the Twitter clone is slated for release in late June.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra also said the upcoming platform possesses a significant advantage – an extensive user base.
Will Twitter head into a new direction under the leadership of Yaccarino?
The Financial Times reports that GroupM, one of the world's leading media agencies, is "cautiously optimistic" about the new leadership. Meanwhile, Wedbush Securities Managing Director Daniel Ives predicts Yaccarino will likely opt for a more aggressive approach in winning over advertisers.
The new CEO is reportedly in a potentially precarious situation – referred to by many as a "glass cliff" – in which female executives are given a tall order of turning around businesses on the brink of disaster all while running the risk of being blamed for any failures in the end.
