Sonia Eland is set to take on new responsibilities at HCLTech Australia and New Zealand, and Michael Horton transitions to a Consulting and Advisory role within the organization.

HCLTech, a leading IT company, announced today the appointment of Sonia Eland as Executive Vice President and Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand, effective April 1, 2024.

In her new role, Sonia brings over 30 years of experience across the consulting, technology, banking, retail, and travel industries. Her expertise in digital transformation, scaling new technology services, and leading international delivery and sales teams will strengthen HCLTech’s position in the ANZ markets. Before her appointment, she served as a Lead Partner at Deloitte for nearly four years, overseeing the Technology Strategy and Transformation consulting business.

Throughout her career, Sonia has held key leadership roles, including General Manager and Global Director for ServiceNow Build and Offerings at DXC Technology, Global VP of Strategic Partner and Digital Ecosystem at CSC Australia, and General Manager of Marketing and Communications at Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand. She also worked with Westpac Banking Corporation, HSBC, and Commonwealth Bank at the beginning of her career.

Assuming her responsibilities as EVP and Country Head, Sonia will report to Swapan Johri, President of Growth Markets at HCLTech. Based in Sydney, she takes over from Michael Horton, who held the position for 10 years. Horton is transitioning to a new role within the company as a consultant and advisor.

Welcoming Sonia to the leadership board, Johri said, “We are delighted to welcome Sonia to HCLTech. I am confident that her rich experience adds immense value to our clients and our growth strategy in Australia and New Zealand. I look forward to working with her. On behalf of everyone at HCLTech, I would like to thank Michael for his immense contribution to boosting the company’s growth in the region.”

Sonia added, “With big data, AI, IoT, cloud, and cybersecurity playing an increasingly significant role in our day-to-day lives, businesses need trusted partners with the experience, capability, and creativity to harness the full power of digital and embed resiliency, optimization, and continuous innovation into their organizations. HCLTech has a remarkable background in engineering and digital transformation, and I’m eager to assist our clients in supercharging progress.”
