In March 2024, Deena will assume her role as the current Chief People Officer, Dharma Chandran, steps down from the position.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has announced the appointment of Deena Amorelli as the new Chief People Officer, effective from March 2024.

Deena will be taking over the responsibilities of Dharma Chandran, who has decided to step down from the role after two years of service. Assuming her new position, she brings more than 20 years of core HR experience gained from holding leadership roles. Deena will be spearheading people and culture policies, programs, and practices (including health & safety) within the organization.

Currently, Deena is serving the University of New South Wales in the capacity of Chief Human Resources Officer. In her previous roles, she worked at Kmart Australia as the General Manager of HR and at Star Entertainment Group as the HR Operations Manager.

Welcoming Deena into her new role, David Anderson, ABC Managing Director, said, “Deena’s broad experience across multiple sectors, including her leadership at the University of New South Wales, makes her an excellent addition to the ABC’s Leadership Team. I am very pleased Deena has accepted the role and look forward to working with her in the years to come.”

Deena added, “The ABC has always been part of my life, from being broadcast into my living room as a child in the 80s to now being experienced on multiple platforms with my children decades later. I’m looking forward to working with David and the team and contributing to the ongoing success of the ABC.”

Extending wishes to the departing CPO Dharma, David said, “I also want to again thank Dharma Chandran for his leadership and contribution to the ABC. Dharma has been a valued member of the Leadership Team, and I wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
