Amazon seeks to strengthen its holiday workforce as competition for seasonal talent intensifies.

Amazon Australia is set to bring on 1,800 seasonal workers in the coming weeks as it ramps up operations ahead of the busy holiday shopping period. The company has opened applications across fulfilment centres and logistics sites in major cities and regional hubs, with pay rates starting at $32.64 an hour.

The roles, which start at $32.64 per hour, come with no experience requirements. Successful candidates will receive on-the-job training, making the opportunity accessible to a wide range of Australians — from university students and retirees to people seeking extra income during the festive season.

“These roles are a great way to gain experience, learn new skills and even kick-start a long-term career at Amazon,” said Michelle Theophilou, Amazon Australia’s senior HR manager. “We’re looking for enthusiastic people ready to be part of our operations at a very exciting time of year.”

The company’s hiring drive comes amid increased competition for seasonal talent, with Australia Post also announcing plans to recruit 3,500 casual workers. Across its network, the postal service is hiring forklift operators, van and truck drivers, and parcel sorters, with pay rates beginning at $34.45 per hour plus superannuation.

For Amazon, demand is concentrated in New South Wales and Victoria, which together account for over 1,300 of the 1,800 jobs. Around 300 roles are available in Queensland, including jobs at Amazon’s Brisbane fulfilment centre and sites on the Gold Coast. In Western Australia, more than 100 seasonal workers will be hired to support operations in Perth and nearby logistics hubs.

With unemployment at 4.2% and nearly a million Australians juggling multiple jobs, the surge in seasonal opportunities highlights both the strength of retail hiring and the financial pressure prompting many workers to seek additional income streams.

Applications are open now via Amazon’s website, with the first wave of recruits set to begin work in early October, just ahead of Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days.
