In order to be truly happy at the workplace, we must have strong social connections, a belief in what we do, and a sense of purpose and belonging - that’s what readers have told us on LinkedIn.

It’s often said that health is wealth, and in the workplace, health is happiness as well, or so professionals tell us.

People Matters rolled out a poll to know working professionals’ take on happiness at the workplace. With a response of over 1,600 votes, the outcome was strongly in favour of the statement: ‘Happiness at the workplace is a healthy work environment.’ 43% of working professionals responded that a healthy work environment is a key to happiness. Whereas, just 5% voted for great friends at work.

We also collected some valuable insights from HR heads and senior leaders. Health to them isn’t just about physical health and safety: it’s about healthy workplace culture, about emotional safety, and even about good leadership. Common remarks included:

  • Professionals said that companies must contribute to a culture where employees feel happy
  • Without a good leader or mentor, a healthy work environment, great friends, and work-life balance is not possible
  • Some felt that happiness means different things to different people

Here are a few of the responses the poll received:
