LinkedIn’s latest market research shows that at least 85% of companies across the Asia Pacific region have expressed a desire to grow their workforce this year.

The Australian job market is set to become more competitive this year with organisations looking to hire and grow their teams. 

LinkedIn’s latest market research shows that at least 85% of companies across the Asia Pacific region have expressed a desire to grow their workforce this year. 

The study saw the largest demand for new recruits in the IT and telecommunications sector, followed by finance, human resources, engineering, and the arts. 

On the other hand, professionals across APAC have also expressed interest in pursuing new career paths, with 77% saying they are considering new job opportunities in 2024. 

In Australia alone, 76% of currently employed professionals are looking to find new employment opportunities to make a fresh start this year.

Fast rising jobs in Australia

Meanwhile, LinkedIn also released a list of the fastest rising jobs in Australia, positions that will most likely become in demand this year or in years to come. Here are the top 10 to help HR and candidates navigate the job market: 

1. Cybersecurity analyst

A cybersecurity professional responsible for monitoring and responding to security incidents to safeguard IT infrastructure and data.

2. Crime analyst

A professional who specialises in identifying, investigating and preventing financial crimes.

3. Workplace specialist

A professional responsible for managing and facilitating various aspects of an office environment and supporting employees and visitors.

4. Sustainability manager

A professional responsible for developing and implementing strategies to promote environmental and social responsibility within an organisation while ensuring economic viability.

5. Audiologist

A healthcare professional who specialises in diagnosing and treating hearing and balance disorders.

6. Buyer's agent

A real estate professional who works on behalf of homebuyers to assist them in finding, evaluating and negotiating the purchase of properties.

7. Energy director

A professional who oversees energy-related strategies, which may include energy procurement, sustainability efforts and investments.

8. Diversity and inclusion specialist

A professional responsible for promoting diversity and inclusion within an organisation by developing and implementing policies, initiatives, and training programs.

9. Clinical care manager

A healthcare professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating the medical and patient care services in a clinical setting.

10. Growth specialist

An expert in developing and implementing strategies to drive an organisation’s growth and expansion through marketing, sales and business development efforts.

The skill sets needed for jobs have changed around 25% since 2015. The onset of AI and other innovations may accelerate this further, according to LinkedIn.

Studies show that by 2030, skill sets required for jobs will change by 65%, a clear signal that the workforce needs to adapt to these changes fast.
