Former HR leader Kristin Cabot breaks silence on viral kiss-cam incident

Five months after a Coldplay concert video went viral, the former executive reflects on the personal and professional fallout.
Five months after a brief moment at a Coldplay concert went viral and triggered intense public scrutiny, Kristin Cabot, a former human resources leader, has spoken publicly for the first time about the incident that derailed her career.
Cabot, who was filmed on a kiss cam alongside her then boss Andy Byron, described the episode as a “bad decision” made after drinking, one that has had lasting consequences on both her professional standing and personal life. In comments reported by US media, she said the moment turned her into an internet meme and left her “effectively unemployable,” despite decades of professional experience.
“I’m not a celebrity. I’m just a mom from New Hampshire,” Cabot said, reflecting on how the incident overshadowed years of work and leadership. She added that the fallout became a “scarlet letter,” erasing her professional achievements almost overnight.
Cabot explained that both she and Byron were amicably separated from their respective spouses at the time of the concert. She acknowledged that she developed feelings for Byron after learning he was also in the process of separating, but said she did not anticipate the scale of the public backlash that followed. She also noted that her husband was present somewhere in the audience that night.
Following the incident, Cabot and Byron briefly stayed in touch to exchange what she described as “crisis-management advice,” but have not spoken for months. She filed for divorce roughly a month after the video circulated widely online.
The viral footage, which showed Byron with his hand around Cabot’s waist as the camera focused on them, sparked widespread debate about workplace boundaries, leadership conduct and reputational risk. Both executives eventually stepped down from their roles.
The episode has since become a case study in how moments outside the workplace can rapidly escalate into career-defining events, particularly for senior leaders entrusted with upholding organisational values.
