The reported cuts come as competition across the streaming industry intensifies, with platforms competing for viewers, advertising revenue and content.

Netflix is reportedly planning to cut around 5% of its workforce, with an announcement potentially coming as early as next week, according to a report by Puck News cited by Reuters.

Netflix had approximately 16,000 full-time employees at the end of last year. If the reported reduction applies across its workforce, it could affect around 800 positions, although the company has not disclosed the potential scale or which teams could be affected.

The streaming company has declined to comment on the proposed job cuts.

Netflix faces shifting streaming market

The reported cuts come as competition across the streaming industry intensifies, with platforms competing for viewers, advertising revenue and content.

YouTube has also gained a greater share of viewing time and advertising spending, adding pressure to established streaming businesses.

Netflix has been expanding beyond its traditional subscription model through advertising, live programming and gaming as it seeks to diversify its revenue streams.

Company last cut jobs in 2022

Netflix’s last major round of layoffs took place in 2022, when the company eliminated hundreds of jobs amid slowing growth and subscriber losses. The proposed cuts would mark another workforce reduction as the streaming business adapts to changing market conditions.

The company has continued to invest in its content offering while developing additional sources of revenue. In July 2026, Netflix projected revenue growth of 13% to 14% for the year and expected content spending to increase by around 10%.

Scope of proposed layoffs remains unclear

Netflix has not confirmed the reported workforce reduction, and details about the timing, affected functions and potential number of job losses remain unclear.

If confirmed, the cuts would come as the company continues to balance content investment and new business opportunities against a more competitive streaming market.
