After two decades in business, food delivery platform Menulog has announced it will cease Australian operations by the end of November, citing tough competition and shifting market realities.

After serving Australian households for two decades, Menulog has confirmed it will wind up its food delivery operations across the country on November 26, 2025. The company confirmed the decision in an online statement, advising customers to use any remaining credits or vouchers before the cut-off date.

Around 120 employees will be affected by the closure. Menulog said redundancy packages and employment support would be provided, while eligible couriers would receive a voluntary payment equivalent to four weeks of work.

“This decision was not taken lightly,” said Morten Belling, CEO of Menulog, acknowledging the impact on employees, couriers, and restaurant partners.

Industry observers say Menulog’s exit signals another major shift in Australia’s gig economy. The company, once holding nearly 80% of the local market in 2014, has seen its share erode to under 25% in recent years. Competitors Uber Eats and DoorDash, who diversified into grocery and convenience deliveries, have tightened their grip on the sector.

Restaurant & Catering Australia president John Hart OAM noted that Menulog’s departure would particularly hurt regional areas less served by larger delivery platforms. Meanwhile, the Transport Workers’ Union renewed calls for stronger worker protections in the gig economy, warning that regulatory delays had left thousands vulnerable.

The platform’s exit marks the end of a long chapter in Australia’s online food delivery story. Owned by UK-based Just Eat, Menulog now joins Deliveroo and Foodora among the delivery brands that have pulled out of Australia in recent years. Industry watchers say the move underlines the intense cost pressures and shrinking margins within the sector, where only the biggest players with deep resources, such as Uber Eats and DoorDash, are managing to stay ahead.
