With over two decades of leadership in energy, transport, and advocacy, Delvecchio succeeds Behyad Jafari as CEO.

The Electric Vehicle Council (EVC), the national body representing the electric vehicle industry in Australia, has announced the appointment of Julie Delvecchio as its new CEO. She succeeds Behyad Jafari, who stepped down after serving for eight years in 2024.

Before Delvecchio’s appointment, Samantha Johnson served as the interim CEO.

With more than two decades of senior leadership experience in business and advocacy, Delvecchio has joined the council with extensive expertise in energy and transport in Australia.

Her experience lies in corporate affairs, government relations, advocacy, campaigns, social license, and reputation. She has expertise across energy, transport, and financial services, working with listed, local and overseas-headquartered businesses. She also worked inside the government in agencies, advising State Ministers and Local Government Mayor, Clover Moore.

EVC chair Chau Le believes Delvecchio’s ability to unite government, industry, and communities will accelerate EV adoption, boost infrastructure, and create jobs in Australia.

According to the council, new electric vehicle sales in Australia reached an all-time high in 2024, underscoring the sustained demand for cleaner, modern, cost-effective cars. Last year, about 114,000 new battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) were sold in Australia as compared to more than 98,000 sales in 2023.

New EV sales in 2024 include approximately 91,000 BEVs and about 23,000 PHEVs. It means nearly one in ten new car sales were EVs (9.65%). This compares to a market share of 8.45% in 2023.
