The Walt Disney Company has appointed Carol Choi as president of Asia Pacific, succeeding Luke Kang, who will retire after 16 years with the company. The appointment takes effect on 1 December.
Choi, currently executive vice president of Disney Asia Pacific, will oversee Disney Entertainment’s businesses across the region, including studios, Disney+, local original content, consumer products, media networks and content sales.
Her remit covers Greater China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Choi brings 20 years of Disney experience
A Disney veteran of 20 years, Choi has led the region’s studios business, original content strategy and integrated marketing.
She previously served as managing director of Disney in Japan and South Korea and held senior leadership roles in Greater China.
During her tenure, she helped launch and grow Disney+, expand the studios business and establish partnerships with filmmakers and talent across the region.
Alan Bergman, chairman of Disney Entertainment, Studios, and Jimmy Pitaro, chairman of ESPN said, “Carol Choi is a proven Disney leader with broad operating experience, strong creative instincts, and a deep understanding of the region, and she is the perfect person to lead the organization into its next chapter.”
Kang to retire after regional leadership tenure
“It has been an extraordinary privilege to lead Disney in Asia Pacific through a period of significant growth and transformation,” Kang said, adding that Choi was well positioned to lead the region into its next phase of growth.
Kang joined Disney in 2011 as managing director of South Korea before taking on leadership roles across Greater China and North Asia.
As Asia Pacific president, he oversaw the regional launch of Disney+ and the expansion of local-language content in markets including South Korea and Japan.
