Louis Mittoni has been appointed as the company's new CEO and will lead the next phase of growth as Alloys looks to strengthen and expand its presence across Australia.

Australian specialist distributor Alloys has announced a major leadership change, with long-serving chief executive Paul Harman stepping down after 19 years at the helm.

Louis Mittoni has been appointed as the company's new CEO and will lead the next phase of growth as Alloys looks to strengthen and expand its presence across Australia, according to ARNnet.

Mittoni becomes only the third chief executive in the company's 44-year history. He has been working closely with Harman in recent months to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Growth agenda

Taking over the top role, Mittoni said he was eager to build on the strong foundation established under Harman's leadership.

“Paul has built an exceptional foundation, and I look forward to working with the team to continue driving growth, innovation, and value for our customers and partners,” Mittoni said.

The appointment comes as Alloys continues to diversify its operations and strengthen its position as a specialist distributor serving multiple sectors across the Australian market.

Experienced leader

Mittoni brings more than 25 years of leadership experience to the role. Before joining Alloys, he served as CEO and managing director of Idea Zone.

His executive career also includes leadership positions at Mittoni, Toys R Us Australia, Babies R Us Australia and Hobby Warehouse. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles at Timbecon and CSIRO.

With an extensive background spanning retail, distribution and business transformation, Mittoni is expected to guide Alloys through its next chapter of expansion and innovation.

Harman's legacy

Harman leaves behind a significant legacy after transforming Alloys from a print-focused distributor into a multi-sector business with operations in every Australian state.

His tenure also included steering the company through periods of market disruption, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Leading Alloys has been a true passion over the past 19 years,” he said. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, particularly navigating challenging periods such as the pandemic and emerging stronger as a business.

“The relationships built with our team, suppliers, and customers have been deeply rewarding, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such exceptional people.”

Following his departure, Harman will focus on his leadership coaching and consulting practice.
