T-Mobile has announced a major leadership reshuffle, naming former AT&T executive Chris Sambar as Chief Enterprise Officer while long-serving executive Mike Katz prepares to leave the company after 28 years.
The changes come nine months after Srini Gopalan became Chief Executive Officer and form part of T-Mobile's strategy to strengthen its leadership team as it prepares for the AI and 6G era, according to the company.
Mike Katz to step down later this year
T-Mobile said Mike Katz, currently Chief Business and Product Officer, has decided to leave the company later this year to pursue new professional interests.
Although stepping away from his executive position, Katz will remain in a strategic advisory role through December 2026 to support the leadership transition.
During his nearly three decades at T-Mobile, Katz held several senior positions, including:
- Chief Business and Product Officer
- Executive Vice President, T-Mobile for Business
- President of T-Mobile's Business Group
- Chief Marketing Officer
In a post on LinkedIn, Katz reflected on the company's transformation during his tenure, highlighting milestones including the Un-carrier strategy, the Sprint merger, and the expansion into broadband and enterprise services.
The company has not announced Katz's next role.
Chris Sambar joins from AT&T
As part of the leadership changes, Chris Sambar will join T-Mobile later this year as Chief Enterprise Officer, reporting directly to Srini Gopalan.
Sambar brings more than 20 years of experience at AT&T, where he most recently served as President of Networks. During his tenure, he played a key role in the development of the operator's 5G mobile network.
According to T-Mobile, his previous responsibilities also included:
- Leading enterprise sales initiatives.
- Developing corporate strategy.
- Supporting the design and deployment of the FirstNet public safety communications network.
Announcing the appointment, Gopalan described Sambar as an experienced wireless industry leader with a strong record of expanding high-growth businesses and capturing new market opportunities.
Leadership structure expands
T-Mobile also announced an expanded role for André Almeida, who currently serves as Chief Broadband, Enterprise and Emerging Business Officer.
Under the new structure, Almeida will become Chief Marketing, Brand and Broadband Officer. He will work alongside Chief Operating Officer Jon Freier to oversee T-Mobile's consumer wireless and broadband businesses.
The leadership changes are intended to strengthen the company's executive team as it focuses on future growth opportunities.
Preparing for the next technology cycle
The reshuffle comes as T-Mobile accelerates preparations for technologies expected to shape the next generation of telecommunications, including artificial intelligence and 6G.
The company said the appointments are designed to position the business for its next phase of innovation and enterprise expansion, while ensuring continuity during the leadership transition.
