Summerfruit Australia appoints Katherine Faull as CEO

Summerfruit Australia (SAL) has appointed Katherine Faull as its new chief executive officer, ushering in a new chapter for the national industry body.

Faull succeeds Carrie Starkings, who stepped down from the role on May 29 2026 after 14 months at the helm. Starkings will support the transition through handover activities and will continue working with SAL in a consulting capacity to ensure continuity.

The appointment comes as SAL looks to build on recent organisational reforms and strengthen support for growers across Australia, as reported by various media reports.

Building momentum

The SAL board credited Starkings with helping stabilise the organisation during her tenure. Her work focused on governance, auditing discipline, data capability and financial preparedness, laying the groundwork for future growth.

SAL chairperson Dean Morpeth expressed confidence in the leadership change.

“We are confident Katherine will build on our momentum and lead SAL toward its strategic goals. Her combination of on-farm experience, sector advocacy and executive leadership makes her exceptionally well placed to support growers and grow market opportunities for summerfruit producers,” said Morpeth.

Industry experience

Faull arrives with extensive experience across the horticulture sector and a strong understanding of grower challenges.

She operates a truffle farm in South Australia, giving her direct insight into the realities of agricultural production and business management.

Her industry credentials also include serving as president and chair of the Australian Truffle Industry Association, where she led strategic planning, governance initiatives and national advocacy efforts.

During that time, she represented growers in state and federal policy discussions and championed programs designed to strengthen industry resilience and expand market opportunities.

As she takes over the leadership role, Faull has signalled a strong focus on collaboration, capability building and market growth for Australia's summerfruit sector.

“I am honoured to join Summerfruit Australia and look forward to working with growers, industry partners and government to strengthen capability, resilience and market access for Australian summerfruit,” said Faull.

The leadership transition marks a significant moment for SAL as it seeks to capitalise on recent reforms and position the industry for long-term growth.

With a blend of hands-on farming experience and national industry leadership, Faull now takes responsibility for guiding Summerfruit Australia through its next phase of development.
