Ruth O’Neill appointed as Chief People Officer at AFG to lead people strategy

AFG has appointed people and culture leader Ruth O’Neill as Chief People Officer, bringing more than 20 years of HR experience across government, professional services and corporate environments.


O’Neill joins from DevelopmentWA, where she was Head of People and Culture, leading initiatives across organisational development, transformation, culture, performance, succession, leadership and remuneration.


Deep HR experience


O’Neill spent more than 16 years at Deloitte, holding senior strategic and operational HR roles.


Most recently, she was Program Senior Manager, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for Australia and Asia Pacific, leading DEI initiatives across the region with a focus on gender equity.


She also spent more than a decade as Head of HR for Deloitte’s Perth office, overseeing strategic and operational HR.


Earlier, as Senior Consultant, People and Performance, she worked across performance management, employee engagement, capability development, employee relations, graduate recruitment and wellbeing.


Experience across transformation


Before Deloitte, O’Neill was a Human Resources Project Consultant at Automotive Holdings Group, where she supported the rollout of an HRIS and payroll platform across a workforce of about 4,000 employees.


She began her career in HR at Soul Telecommunications, advising senior management on employee relations, organisational change and people capability.


Leading AFG’s people agenda


O’Neill is a Certified Practitioner Human Resources (CPHR) through the Australian HR Institute and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology and Human Resources from Charles Sturt University.


At AFG, she will lead the company's people agenda, drawing on her experience in culture, transformation, leadership and organisational capability.
