Russell Reynolds Associates, a global leadership advisory firm, has appointed Nick Fletcher as its new Australia Country Leader, succeeding Alistair Macrae, who assumed the role of Head of Asia Pacific on 1 July 2026.
According to the Russell Reynolds Associates official website, Fletcher, who is based in Melbourne and Sydney, will lead the firm's Australia business, working closely with organisations to address leadership priorities, strengthen advisory capabilities and support boards and executives on succession planning, executive assessment, board effectiveness and transformational leadership.
Experienced leadership adviser takes the helm
Fletcher brings more than 18 years of experience in leadership advisory and has been with Russell Reynolds Associates since 2007. Prior to his appointment, he co-led the firm's Board and CEO Advisory Partnership across Asia Pacific, advising organisations on senior leadership, governance and executive development.
Throughout his tenure, Fletcher has partnered with clients across Australia and the wider region to identify, assess and develop leaders capable of navigating increasingly complex business, economic and stakeholder environments.
"Our clients are dealing with unprecedented levels of change, and they need stronger leadership than at any time in recent history," said Nick Fletcher. "I am excited to take on the role of Australia Country Leader and build on the strong foundation that Alistair and the team have established.
“I am thrilled to lead an exceptional team and bring the full strength of Russell Reynolds Associates' search and advisory capabilities to our clients,” he added.
Leadership transition strengthens regional focus
Macrae, who recently assumed responsibility for leading the firm's Asia Pacific operations, said Fletcher's appointment reflects the firm's commitment to helping organisations address evolving leadership challenges.
"Nick is a trusted advisor to clients and a highly respected colleague, with strong market knowledge and a deep understanding of the leadership challenges facing organisations in Australia and globally," said Alistair Macrae, Head of Asia Pacific, Russell Reynolds Associates.
He added, "We are delighted he is taking on the Australia leadership role and we are confident that he will continue to build on the strength of our Australia business. I look forward to working with Nick and our teams across the region to help clients identify, assess and develop the leaders they need to navigate change and deliver lasting impact."
Background in strategy and leadership
Before joining Russell Reynolds Associates, Fletcher worked as a manager at A.T. Kearney, where he led strategy, change management and procurement projects, particularly within the telecommunications sector.
He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Sheffield and graduated first in his MBA class from Warwick Business School. Fletcher is also a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Junior Division of the Staff College.
Focus on leadership succession and governance
In his new role, Fletcher will oversee the firm's Australia operations at a time when organisations are facing heightened pressure to strengthen leadership capability amid economic uncertainty and business transformation.
His appointment underscores Russell Reynolds Associates' continued focus on supporting boards, chief executives and senior leadership teams with succession planning, executive assessment, governance and long-term organisational effectiveness.
