Ian Boyd appointed as chief revenue officer at Budgetly

Budgetly has appointed former Xero executive Ian Boyd as Chief Revenue Officer to lead its revenue growth, marketing and partnerships as the company expands its services for Australian small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

Boyd joins Budgetly from GoCardless, where he served as General Manager, ANZ.

He previously spent eight years at Xero, most recently as General Manager, Partnerships, APAC.

Earlier in his career, he spent eight years at Visa, leading Commercial Payments for Australasia.

Driving growth

In his new role, Boyd will lead Budgetly’s revenue team and oversee marketing and business growth.

He will also focus on building stronger partnerships with accountants, bookkeepers and business advisers.

The appointment comes as Budgetly reports more than 20,000 users. Its platform helps businesses set spending budgets, approve payments and keep clear records of company expenses.

Budgetly has processed more than $1.5 billion in payments across more than two million transactions.

Its user base has grown 70% over the past year, while customer retention stands at 99%.

Cutting manual work

Budgetly’s appointment comes as finance teams look for ways to reduce manual work and use technology more effectively.

Simon Lenoir, CEO, Budgetly said Boyd’s experience at Xero and GoCardless would help the company understand what accountants and bookkeepers need from the tools they recommend to clients.

“Ian understands the role accountants and bookkeepers play in helping businesses improve their financial operations. His experience at Xero and GoCardless gives him a clear view of what advisers need from the tools they recommend,” Lenoir added.

“Australian SMEs need control before money moves, not another report explaining where it went.

Ian will help us make Budgetly’s value easier to see, easier to adopt and easier to build into everyday workflows,” he also pointed out.

Building partnerships

Boyd said his eight years at Xero had shown him how much time accountants and bookkeepers spend managing financial records after transactions are completed.

“Accountants and bookkeepers often spend too much time cleaning up data after the fact,” said Boyd.

“I did my due diligence before joining the team. Budgetly has a really smart point of difference. Most expense management starts after the money's gone, but Budgetly starts before it's spent.

“That shift gives businesses greater control over spending, taking unnecessary admin off finance teams. I'm looking forward to bringing that approach to more Australian businesses.”

Boyd will also support Budgetly’s partner programme, which helps accountants, bookkeepers and business advisers improve how their clients manage company spending.
