Commonwealth appoints Victoria Ledda and Rodrigo Castillo to executive leadership team

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has appointed Victoria Ledda as Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Rodrigo Castillo as Group Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective July 1, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, as reported by the firm.

The appointments form part of a broader effort to strengthen the bank's technology leadership as AI, digital transformation and data capabilities become increasingly important to its strategy.

By creating two dedicated technology roles, CBA aims to improve accountability and accelerate the delivery of technology initiatives across the business.

Driving digital ambitions

CBA Chief Executive Officer Matt Comyn said, “Technology is central to CBA’s strategy and to the experiences we provide for our customers. The pace of change in technology and AI means we need focused, hands-on leadership across both business-aligned technology delivery and the enterprise technology foundations that support the Group.

“Victoria and Rodrigo bring complementary strengths and this model is designed to help CBA accelerate technology delivery, strengthen accountability and reflects CBA’s continued focus on delivering safe, resilient and reliable technology for customers,” he added.

As Group CIO, Ledda will lead technology strategy and delivery across business units. Castillo, as Group CTO, will oversee engineering, cybersecurity, AI and enterprise technology platforms.

Proven leaders

Ledda joined CBA in 2021 and has held senior roles across retail and institutional banking technology. She was appointed interim Co-Chief Information Officer for Business Technology in November 2025.

Before joining CBA, she spent 15 years at Goldman Sachs in London, New York and Sydney. There, she led major digital transformation projects, cloud adoption initiatives and operational improvement programmes.

Ledda is also an Executive Board Member of CommSec and serves on the Mastercard Advisory Board. She holds a first-class degree in Computer Science from the University of Kent.

Technology transformation

Castillo joined CBA in 2023 as Chief Technology Officer and became interim Co-Chief Information Officer for Central Technology in November 2025.

Prior to CBA, he held senior technology leadership roles at HSBC. He led large-scale digital transformation and modernisation programmes across multiple international markets.

His experience includes agile delivery, DevSecOps implementation and the deployment of generative and agentic AI technologies at scale.

Castillo has worked extensively across Europe, Asia and the Americas, leading teams that developed technology platforms serving millions of users.

He holds an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation from MIT Sloan School of Management and a Bachelor of Systems Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería.

Strengthening leadership

Comyn said the appointments highlight the bank's strong internal technology talent and commitment to innovation.

“These appointments reflect the depth of technology talent within CBA and our continued focus on delivering better, safer and more resilient technology for customers.”

Both executives will report directly to the CEO and join CBA's Executive Leadership Team.
