Australia Post adds over 5,000 jobs to meet delivery shortages

Australia Post begins its second recruitment drive and aims to hire 5,000 employees. The postal service aims to hire for 1,600 permanent jobs and 3,300 casual jobs to keep up with the surge in online shopping. As per reports, more than two million parcels are being delivered each day.

Executive general manager, Sue Davis said: “At the moment, every day feels like Christmas at Australia Post and we’re on the lookout for people to join us and help deliver and process record volumes across the country. We’re proud of the outstanding efforts of our people working hard across the country who keep delivering and supporting communities through challenging circumstances.”

There are vacancies in every state and territory in Australia, with staff required in parcel, mail processing and customer service teams, as well as posties who drive vans, trucks and motorcycles.

At the end of August, Australia Post began its first recruitment drive to add 4000 new staff. However, in early September, it had to temporarily pause the mail service and parcel pick ups from online retailers in the locked down jurisdictions of NSW, ACT and Victoria for three days to process a backlog. As the demand for online parcels continue to rise, more staff is required to streamline delivery services and improve efficiencies. The hiring spree for delivery staff comes as a relief for the otherwise stressed job market.
