Amazon Australia to hire more than 1,000 seasonal workers for holiday rush

As Australia gears up for festive shopping, retailers are creating job opportunities for casual workers. The latest to join is Amazon Australia, which plans to onboard over 1,000 seasonal workers to help with the onslaught of ‘pick, pack and ship’ orders expected in the coming months.

“There are opportunities for motivated, enthusiastic people from all backgrounds and we look forward to welcoming them to our sites around Australia as we head into the holiday period,” said Craig Fuller, Director of Operations at Amazon Australia.

At present, Amazon Australia has five fulfilment centres and 12 logistics sites spread across Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The seasonal hires, however, will be assigned across Sydney (400), Melbourne (600) and Brisbane (100).

Other job opportunities are emerging as a host of other employers are ramping up hiring efforts ahead of the season. A week ago, electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi announced it was recruiting about 1,500 casuals, while Coles is offering more than 7,000 positions across all of its divisions. Last week, Australia Post also began its second recruitment drive to hire 5,000 more people, after experiencing a shortage of workers to meet increasing customer demand.
