After mass layoffs, Elon Musk requests fired Twitter employees to come back

After Twitter laid off roughly half its staff on Friday following Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition, the company is now taking a U-turn. The social-media company has reached out to dozens of employees who lost their jobs and asked them to return.

According to Bloomberg News, some of those who are being asked to return were laid off by mistake. Others were let go before management realised that their role and experience may be necessary to build the new features Musk envisions.

Elon Musk fired top executives including CEO Parag cuts Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde. Other employees from trust and safety, communications, content curation, human rights and machine learning ethics were among those gutted.

Another of Musk’s key early goals — adding verification check marks for members of its monthly subscription service — is also being delayed until Wednesday to avoid potential chaos during the US midterm elections.
