Jason Doherty takes over as next CEO for KPMG New Zealand
KPMG, one of the big 4 finance consulting firms, has announced the appointment of Jason Doherty as the next CEO for overseeing operations in New Zealand with effect from December 1, according to the latest announcement by CEO and Executive Chair Matt Prichard, on August 27, 2023.
Jason will be taking over from Godfrey Boyce, who is set to retire from the post after 39 years of service. Boyce, who joined KPMG in 1985 as a fresher, was elevated to the role of CEO in 2016 after shouldering significant responsibilities for over 32 years.
Acknowledging Boyce’s contributions to the organisation during 39 years of service, Prichard said, “Boyce’s achievements during his tenure, not least of which was leading significant growth through a global pandemic; including developing and leading a sector-led strategy that supported the firm’s significant growth. Godfrey drove purposeful investment in new capabilities including data and analytics, digital and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), and Matt notes that Godfrey’s leadership created individual opportunities for thousands of KPMG people to personally thrive and grow. I’m looking forward to working with both Godfrey and Jason on the transition and am confident that in Jason we have chosen a leader who respects KPMG’s past and is ambitious for KPMG’s future – a future he is looking forward to helping shape.”
Jason, who has been with KPMG NZ for almost 20 years, has occupied various leadership positions, in addition to two years as Associate Director of Corporate Finance at KPMG United Kingdom. He was responsible for the People, Performance, and Culture function at KPMG NZ as a member of the National Executive team. Currently, he holds the position of Head of Deal Advisory under the National Managing Partner of Strategy and Investments, as part of a five-year strategy, in addition to overseeing the national Deal Advisory business.
"During his People, Performance and Culture role, Jason and the team launched a range of diversity and inclusion programs that laid the foundation for KPMG New Zealand's focus and progress in this priority area for the firm," stated Prichard in the official announcement.
Set to assume his new role, Jason, who is actively involved in the development of KPMG New Zealand's purpose of ‘Fuelling Prosperity for all New Zealanders,’ stated, "I’m committed to driving further progress and supporting our people's promise, which is based on all of our people believing that they belong, that they can thrive and grow with us, and that they’re doing work that matters.
