Actionstep hires legal-tech expert Michael McKell as Regional Director, Australia

Actionstep, global legal practice management software business, has announced the appointment of Michael McKell as regional director, Australia.

In his new role, McKell will lead and grow Actionstep’s Australian sales function and provide a key point of engagement in-market with Australian customers, partners, and other legal community stakeholders.

This new appointment follows a wave of extraordinary growth for Actionstep, with over 40% growth in the last year alone, bringing the company’s customer base to over 16,000 globally, including 6,500 customers in Australia.   McKell’s appointment signals Actionstep’s plans for further investment and growth in Australia, leveraging an already robust market position as a preferred legal practice management software provider for modern mid-size firms in the legal market.

McKell has had a global career in legal technology sales. He comes to Actionstep from Litera, where he was Regional Director, APAC. His prior roles include Lead North American Sales for Smokeball Legal Software and lead for the account management function at Infotrack, Australia. He started his career in global B2B Saas businesses SAP Qualtrics and Salesforce.

“Michael is joining Actionstep at a fantastic time of growth. He brings with him an incredible breadth of experience from the legal technology space in APAC and the US, and will no doubt accelerate our planned investments and growth trajectory in Australia. We have already been impressed by his passion for building high-performing teams and ability to bring best-of-breed technology to law firms,” said David Hepburn, global president of Actionstep welcoming McKell.

McKell says he joined Actionstep for the opportunity to bring truly modern, configurable technology to an underserved segment of the legal sector: “Australian law firms have been operating on outdated technology for far too long. I am excited to make sure more of the Australian legal market understands just how game-changing Actionstep is to the practice of law.”
